Relationship tarot spread

A six-card spread for questions about love: about your current relationship, an ex or someone you like. It shows your role, your partner’s feelings, what binds you and what stands in the way, where the relationship is heading, and advice.

Relationship spread layout

  1. You in this relationship — Your role, expectations and state of mind.
  2. Your partner’s feelings — What your partner feels for you.
  3. What binds you — The foundation of the relationship, what you share.
  4. What stands in the way — A problem, a fear or an outside obstacle.
  5. The outlook — Where the relationship is heading.
  6. Advice — What will help the relationship.

How to interpret the spread

Before the spread, think of a specific person. The first two cards compare you and your partner: if the cards are similar in mood, you’re on the same wavelength; if they differ sharply, your expectations don’t match. The third card shows what holds the relationship together, the fourth what weakens it.

The fifth card is the outlook if things continue as they are, the sixth is advice. Look at the suits too: lots of Cups speaks of deep feelings, Swords of arguments and things left unsaid, Pentacles of everyday life and reliability, Wands of passion.

The love meaning of every card is covered in detail on its page in the Card meanings section.

Frequently asked questions

Can I do a relationship spread if I’m single?

Yes. Ask about a future relationship or about someone you like. The “Your partner’s feelings” position will then show how that person feels about you, or what your future partner will be like.

Can I do a tarot spread about my ex?

Yes, it’s one of the most common questions. Think of your ex before the spread. The “Outlook” position will show whether there’s a chance of getting back together, and “Advice” will show how you should act.

How often can I do a relationship reading?

No more than once a week about the same person. If you do a reading every day, the cards reflect your anxiety more than the situation.

Is this tarot reading free?

Yes, all spreads on the site are free, with no sign-up. Your question stays in your browser and isn’t sent anywhere.

Are reversed cards included?

Yes, by default a card can come up reversed — this makes the spread more accurate. If you’re used to reading with upright cards only, uncheck “Include reversed cards” before you lay out the spread.
