Minor Arcana · Wands · 10
The Ten of Wands is overload. A man bends under a bundle of wands and struggles to move forward. The card speaks of a heavy responsibility you have taken on yourself, and of the need to share the load.
Likely “no”: you are already carrying too much. Something new would take your last reserves of strength.
Ask the cards your own question →In Heinrich Pangrau’s deck, the Ten of Wands shows a hooded man carrying a huge bundle of wands on his back. He leans on yet another staff and stares at the ground.
He gathered the load himself, wand by wand. Each one once seemed manageable.
The weight won’t let him lift his head and see where he is going.
The sun shines at his back: joy and lightness have been left in the past.
Even bent over, he keeps walking: the persistence is there, but the price is high.
The upright Ten of Wands means too many obligations: doing the work of three people, taking care of everyone, projects you can’t say no to.
The card does not condemn hard work, but it warns: if nothing is taken off the pile, the person will break down or lose the joy of what they do.
The reversed Ten says it is time to shed what is unnecessary: delegate, turn things down, say “no.”
If you don’t, the load will fall on its own, in the form of a breakdown, an illness or a failure.
Upright The relationship rests on one person who carries everything alone. Or love takes a back seat to everyday worries.
Reversed The partners start sharing responsibilities, or one of them leaves, tired of carrying it all.
Feelings This person feels warmly toward you but is too overloaded right now to show it.
Upright A crunch, overtime, other people’s tasks on your shoulders.
Reversed Delegating, leaving an exhausting job, cutting back your workload.
Upright Debts and financial obligations weigh on you.
Reversed Relief from part of your debt, a review of your obligations.
Upright Overexertion, back pain, chronic fatigue. Tarot is not a substitute for a doctor.
Reversed Relief, if you reduce the load.
As a person: a workaholic who takes everything on and doesn’t know how to ask for help.
Upright Choose what you can hand over to others, even just one task today.
Reversed Don’t be afraid to let go of what is unnecessary: it is not weakness but common sense.
As the card of the day, it brings a hard day. Don’t take on new commitments.
Likely no: first you need to take some of the load off.
One partner carries everything, and love takes a back seat.
Freedom from an unnecessary burden, or a breakdown from overload.
Don’t take on new tasks; finish what is essential.
