How to read the Suit of Wands
In the Suit of Wands, the story moves from a spark to burnout. The Ace of Wands is a flash of an idea and of desire. The Two and Three are the plan and the first steps; the Four is celebration and a solid foundation. The Five and Seven are rivalry and the need to stand your ground; the Six is recognition and victory; the Eight is swift movement and news. The Nine is a weary but steadfast defender, and the Ten is a burden the person has taken on themselves.
The Wands court cards are vivid, active people. The Page is an enthusiast and a messenger, the Knight an impulsive adventurer, the Queen warm, confident and charismatic, and the King a leader with vision who knows how to get others to follow.
In relationships, Wands speak of passion, attraction and shared goals. At work, they point to initiative, entrepreneurship and creativity. Reversed Wands most often indicate burnout, irritation, scattered energy or a fear of getting started.

Frequently asked questions
What does the Suit of Wands represent in tarot?
Energy, willpower, desire, creativity and action. Wands show what motivates a person and whether they have enough strength to move toward their goal.
What element are Wands in tarot?
In the Golden Dawn and Rider–Waite tradition, Wands belong to the element of Fire and are linked to the signs Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Some schools assign Wands to Air, but on our site we follow the classic system.
What does it mean when there are a lot of Wands in a spread?
The situation is dynamic: lots of movement, desires, plans and, possibly, conflicts. The key is not to spread yourself too thin and not to burn out. If the Wands are reversed, the energy is blocked or being wasted.
Are Wands a good sign in a love reading?
Usually, yes: they speak of passion, attraction and genuine interest. But fire needs fuel — without a shared purpose and respect for each other’s freedom, such a relationship cools down quickly.
