Karmic tail 18-9-9 — “The Fearful Hermit”

What tail 18-9-9 is made of

A karmic tail is the three numbers at the bottom of the destiny matrix. It is traditionally read from the center outward: 18 is the root, the deep cause; 9 is how the lesson shows up in life; 9 is the karmic task, the outer point a person runs into most often.

• 18 — The Moon, root (closest to the center): illusions, fears, intuition. What 18 means in a karmic tail →
• 9 — The Hermit, manifestation (middle): wisdom, solitude, the search for meaning. What 9 means in a karmic tail →
• 9 — The Hermit, karmic task (outer point): wisdom, solitude, the search for meaning. What 9 means in a karmic tail →

Past-life image

The double nine is solitude and wisdom, eighteen in the depths is secret knowledge and fears. The past-life image: a hermit, folk healer or mystic who withdrew from people, held secret knowledge but never passed it on, and shut himself away in his own world.

A past-life image in the matrix is not a biographical fact but a metaphor: it makes it easier to see which scenario a person tends to repeat and what they need to free themselves from.

How tail 18-9-9 shows up in life

Today it shows up as loneliness, mistrust, anxiety, and a strong intuition combined with a fear of using it. A person thinks and analyzes a lot, withdrawing into themselves and into the past.

How it plays out depends on whether the arcana are working in their positive or negative expression. What helps is anything that brings these arcana into their positive expression: regularly getting out among people and sharing what you know, and developing your intuition consciously by writing down dreams and premonitions.

How to work through a karmic tail

The main lesson is to go out to people with your knowledge and turn your fears into intuition.

• Share your knowledge: teach, write, consult.
• Check your worries against the facts.
• Spend more time around people, and travel.
• Value solitude as a resource, not as an escape.

If the same tail appears in a couple’s matrix, the lesson becomes shared. In a couple’s tail, nine says that partners need to give each other personal space without drifting apart. The root of the tail, Arcana 18, points to the deeper theme of the union: illusions, fears, intuition.
